06. Resonance of Walthamstow Wetlands:
Scorescapes & Soundscapes
This work investigates the symbolic and acoustic entanglements of human intervention and ecological vitality within environments affected by industrialisation. The project unfolds in two parts: Scorescapes captures on-site perception and soundscape experience by transcribing the wetlands’ structures into musical notation, translating ecological resonance into visual symbols; Soundscapes, meanwhile, materialises these interactions through cast record-sculptures that render the interplay of industry and nature as tactile and audible forms. Through the combined practices of notation and sculpture, I aim to transform soundscapes into tangible ecosymbols, extending the limits of musical notation and proposing modes of resonance that move beyond human-centred perception.
This work played a pivotal role in shaping the conceptual and methodological foundations of Ecosound Notation: it tested how environmental textures could become symbolic forms, how symbols might return to sound through material activation, and how ecological relations could be articulated through both visual and sonic modalities.
