05 Making Connections

「Post-Museum」

Our group conceived the concept of a post-museum, and made people reflect on the opposite relationship between the natural environment and human intervention by centering on the question of how nature takes over the museum.

(1) What?
The emergence of museums is due to human's exploration of the world, human's concern for the living environment, and human's desire to control their own destiny. Therefore, the identity and definition of museums are endowed by human beings. If nature controls museums instead of human beings in the future, what will it be like? What about future generations of humans or other intelligent beings?

(2) Why?
Throughout modern museums, the traces of ancient human life and creation have become ruins. Museums are carriers of ruins. Museums are built and exhibits are displayed, which are all products of human intervention The impact of human intervention on the natural environment is becoming more and more serious. Human activities have changed our earth. The human-influenced environment or human-influenced environment includes changing the biophysical environment and ecosystem, resulting in the loss of biodiversity and so on.

But if, in the future, humans fall, the Anthropocene turns upside down, and human intervention is no match for nature, and nature regains its grip, then a very ordinary object that we have today -- a very ordinary plant, or even the most humble plant on the road -- becomes a treasured or endangered species object They might be displayed in the window of a museum of the future (where nature controls their state of display for future intelligences, of which humans may be just one)What will the museum look like at that time?

(3) How?
Print some pictures of plant objects that may be endangered or disappear in the future due to lack of or affected by human intervention. Behind each picture may be some contrasting words and phrases.

Being randomly assembled can form unreasonable sentences, bringing contrast and enlightenment effect to people.

Let the audience do not know what the actual picture represents, for the purpose of building the future exhibition of residual plant articles, spell out the exhibits that the museum may display under the influence of nature on the map of the future museum and put them into the corresponding exhibition hall, so as to establish the association of future exhibits and post-museum.

However, in fact, from an obverse perspective, the audience constructs the exhibits and exhibitions in the post-museum with hope and association, while from a reverse perspective, the audience unconsciously constructs human intervention, which implies that human beings may have some influence on nature and organisms without knowing it, and reminds people to reflect on their daily behaviors in life.

(4) Meaning
With the current of the V&A museum is contradictory, it shows in the past, we are on the basis of its existing, assuming that is now history, museum of such a future for structuring explore it gradually lost human interference by natural state of control, and hope that through the interaction with the audience, arouse the audience's association, let the audience more immersive A profound reflection on the antagonistic relationship between the natural environment and human intervention enables people to hold nature and other creatures in awe, and critically think about the identity and significance of museums in the future.
